I know that Google publicly stated that they were discrediting all links found on massive link pages like Blog Carnivals..

But even with that.. I was a bit surprised to see how completely dead the Blog Carnival sites have all become in the last few months.

Is it just me?.. Or has the final nail already been driven in the Blog Carnival coffin?

I think you're right.  I know I've lost interest in them, after the findings shared in the post on Microblogger.

Just in my (millennial) point of view, blog carnival sounds a bit outdated. Kind of like webrings and other such archaic terms of the internet. I think some evolved form of blog carnivals will arise, what that exactly is anyones guess?

I too have avoided submitting to them or hosting.  I've had multiple requests to remove links from some of the carnivals I've hosted in the past as well.

I kind of hope so.

If they are not good for SEO, I certainly don't see much benefit for readers of the host site. "Oooo, a list of 100 links to other sites – whoopie"…

I was one of those bloggers who requested everyone to remove carnival entries for my blog. Difficult to quantify but seems things have improved after taking that action..

I definitely have been avoiding hosting and submitting to them after the talk about the negative SEO impact. I have also had about a dozen requests for link removals and will probably take down all of the carnivals that I have hosted.

I've noticed that hosting has gone down significantly, but didn't know about Google's statement. I think it goes back to what MMM spoke about at FinCon about giving–those carnivals do nothing for our readers.

Definitely seems like Blog Carnivals are no more. I was rejected from my very first carnival in 2009, so I never participated, but I started this forum to help others.

Given carnivals are dying, and the spammers are going nuts, I'm going to shut this section down so we can stay in Blogger's Lair.

Regards,

Sam
