Jackie O Believed Lyndon B Johnson Killed JFK
Former First Lady Jackie Onassis believed that Lyndon B Johnson could have killed her husband JFK. In a shocking interview by prominent historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr, Mrs. Onassis opens up about everything from her husband’s untimely death to both their extramarital affairs. This intimate information about the Kennedys has never been revealed before– and for good reason.
Upon agreeing to give the interviews, Mrs. Onassis stipulated that the tapes would not be released until 50 years after her death to protect her family. She was worried that what she was revealing could be potential terms for revenge. Although she passed away only 17 years ago after a struggle with cancer, her daughter Caroline Kennedy has agreed to release the tapes early.

That is to say, Caroline Kennedy agreed to release the tapes in exchange for ABC dropping their multi-million dollar drama about the Kennedys which is supposed to portray the family in a negative light. That’s what has been speculated anyway. There had also been a rumor of the tapes being released in exchange for several million dollars.
The tapes demonstrate how much Jackie O didn’t trust Lyndon Johnson, so much so in fact, that she believed he was capable of murdering her husband. I think we all find it shocking for a woman who lived in the White House to feel as though the Vice President could be responsible for the murder of the President. Regardless, she did believe that LBJ along with Texas businessmen had arranged for Lee Harvey Oswald to assassinate her husband.
Whether or not there’s any evidence to support this is unclear. The tapes, however, will not disappoint the public. Beyond discussions of LBJ, the former first lady talks about the affairs her husband had and goes into specific details about a 19-year old White House intern he was sleeping with. She also reveals that she hadn’t been entirely faithful in their marriage either. Mrs. Onassis had several illicit romances with prominent men, which included actor William Holden and Fiat founder Gianni Agnelli.
The tapes had been locked up in a vault at the Kennedy Library in Boston until Caroline Kennedy consented to their release earlier this year. ABC has stated that they will most likely not be released until mid-September.
It seems as though the world’s fascination with the Kennedy family is somewhat timeless. I think this has something to do with the fact that on-screen they had so much charisma, appeal and good looks and yet their lives were marred by scandal and tragedy. It seems a pity that Mrs. Onassis’ wishes couldn’t be respected for the tapes 50 year release, however I suppose Caroline Kennedy must have felt that their early release was appropriate for good reason.
