The layout is nice and clear, good work.... If you start bringing in advertising you may want to reduce the header height slightly to give them a slightly higher view.

Looks great! It actually reminds me of all the things I SHOULD do with my site, but can't seem to find time for. The 'Start Here' button sounds like an excellent idea - it will really retain new visitors since they often browse aimlessly otherwise (or just leave).

 

Yes, I suspect it will be very time consuming... and I'm thinking about a new css template too.  I appreciate your feedback... thanks.

"Start here" is a great idea, I am working on one myself. Other than that, I have only a question - What qualifications do you have to give stock recommendation. No, I am not doubting you or anything  I am just asking this about your site. Don't you have to put that somewhere more than a paragraph at the end of your disclaimer? I don't know much about the financial industry regulation, but I know recommending stocks/mutual fund is highly regulated. You might want to look into it to cover your bases. Esp. as you are charging for your advice via your newsletter... Just my 2c.

 

No problem... your question is very important.  When you visit the site, you'll notice I do not make specific stock recommendations... such as buy this stock at this time, etc.  What I do is tell others what I'm doing.  I make it quite clear in my disclaimer that I'm not a qualified advisor (licensed) and the information should be treated as "entertainment."  Now, if investors want to make independent decisions and invest in the stocks I list that I'm investing in, they certainly can... but I have no control over that decision.  

As for my own qualifications... while I used to be a licensed financial advisor (holding a mutual funds license) at one of the major banks, I no longer hold those qualifications; nevertheless, I do have some experience/knowledge.  However, I've found that most of my success has come through the development of my own system, called the Weekend Investor. This is designed for those who have little time on their hands to watch the markets everyday, yet want to invest in the markets and be successful.  That's me... and so many others, like Lynn or Glenn.  The so-called "professionals" tend to take risks with people's money, because they get paid the same... instead, I minimize my risk and maximize my returns through the Weekend Investor strategy.

I definitely think the "Start Here" thing is a great idea. I'm on the verge of a complete redesign with new theme and I'll be adding the same thing to mine. Having an intuitive flow to the site helps a lot and guides the readers through the process. If I was starting from scratch I'd do exactly what you're doing. Great idea!

 

Yeah... it's the intuitive flow that I was thinking as well... something that progresses for those who are just beginning or various entry points for those who are coming for a specific need.  I wish you well in your redesign.
