Thanks MoneyBeagle those are some great tips! At this point I really don't have any expectations for my blog so I guess that is a good thing. My main motivations are: trying something new, exploring my own feelings/ideas, and lastly seeing if I can become successful at blogging. Thanks for the support!

1. Set no expectations - Many people come in with grand expectations that their blog will get thousands of page views and tons of traffic in the first few months. While this is certainly possible, more often than not it takes longer. If you set too high of expectations, it increases your chance of disappointment, where if you set no expectations one way or another, you can wait a few months before goal setting. By then you'll have a reasonable idea of how things are going.

2. Build relationships - Your first few months, you'll want to spend as much time as you do on your blog outside of your blogs, namely on other blogs. Comment (with insightful comments, not just 'Great post') reguarly on other peoples blogs, and many of them will notice and end up seeing what you're all about.

3. Give - If you establish relationships with the sole purpose to get other people to promote your blog, other bloggers will see through that. Although other bloggers will be a key to getting your blog more attention, don't establish relationships with that as your priority. Finding out a way to give as much as you get will pay off dividends.

I second Andrea but will add that it's important to comment in order to build said relationships.

In terms of how often to post, do it as often as you're comfortable with (your schedule and content). It's always obvious when people post just because they want to get a post out. Only post when you're happy with your content! For some people it's everyday, some people once a week. One great post a week is always better than 5 crappy ones.

Thanks for your response and the support! I have been reading blogs for a long time but haven't ever commented on the posts much. Time to change that! I am focusing write now on pumping out some good content. Right now I'm thinking a Tuesday/Thursday release schedule. What is everyone's opinion on how often new content should come out?

I've been blogging on my current site for 2 years (and in general since before "blogging" was a word), and the best advice I can give you is this: Build relationships and write awesome posts. If you do those two things, everything else will fall into place on its own. Don't get caught up in your stats or making money or anything else, because all of those will follow naturally when you promote and support others and put out great stuff that others want to read and share. :)

Welcome to the group - I look forward to seeing more of your blog!

Hello everyone,

I just recently started blogging at ayoungpro.com. I am new to this forum as well. I just wanted to get some tips from everyone about things they wish they knew when they started blogging. I really want my blog to succeed and I am having a blast doing it right now. Any tips would be much appreciated!

Thanks!
