I've also implemented some of the search engine tips noted above. I am listed third on the google search "uhnw" which is a fantastic start!

The way to really get out of this is to stop caring about the stats. ;) Focus on commenting, promoting, and writing good content... it sounds simple, perhaps too simple, but I think that it really does work. Persistence and dedication will pay off. Just like the market, you can't let the short-term swings mess with your mood too much. It's the long-run that matters.

First check if your site is listed already. In google, the query is site:www.mysite.com. The other are the same, I think.

Using the search engine submit form is about the slowest way to get indexed. I'd start with blog directories, like weblogalot or toprankblog, then move on to some RSS feed submission sites, like feedest, plazoo, and rss001. Also, in Wordpress, Settings/Writing/Update services, change it from just pingomatic to this list: http://www.loanofficermarketin.....gsites.txt.

Generally, I can get a new site indexed in well under 24 hours.

I agree with what everyone else says - keep on going. Here are a few other thoughts too.

If you are thinking long term, learn about SEO. I am not saying you should write keyword driven posts, but make the most of the tags and such so search engines can find you.

Speaking of search engines, have you submitted your site to all the search engines?

Watching your Alexa ranking climb can be fun and rewarding. However, don't fixate on it. My Alexa ranking is way better than many people who have a heck of a lot more traffic than I do. It is through the help of my Yakezie friends that my Alexa climbed.

There will always be times in life that you can't participate as much as usual. Once your site is longer established, it's published content can take care of itself and you will still get plenty of traffic. But if you are new, it can affect you a lot more if you can't comment and such. Give yourself a break, don't stress out, and your traffic will bounce back when you have some more time.

Traffic stats and Alexa rankings are a very interesting thing. I was very busy this fall with my first semester of my PhD program, which caused my Alexa ranking to get to around 500,000 but in the 1st week of December, when I actually was commenting on other blogs and posting actively, it jumped 100k to around 400k. Moral of the story I guess is that your blog will always be there for you! It really is a marathon, not a sprint! haha

Hey uhnw,

Perhaps you can focus on other goals besides the ranking? For me, I still have some to hack away. But thinking forward, eventually I will stall out, too. I'm thinking I need another metric to gauge myself and keep myself going... My guess is when you get your mojo back, the ranking will take care of itself. Good luck!

I got really busy at my real job for about a week there. And in that week I only published once (and totally stopped commenting on other blogs). The results from the Alexa rankings and hits on my site also collapsed. From 60 to 80 a day down to a lowly 10 per day. My Alexa ranking also stalled at about 450,000 (and in fact even went up a little )

This week I've been busy posting, commenting and generally getting out there, but I can't seem to shift my page hits.

Anyone else ever been in a slump? I know its only been 10 days, but its still pretty depressing looking back at my 200+ hit spikes. How do I get out of this?

Thanks
