Adwords is actually not so straightforward to use.

1. Use long-tail keywords and words that aren't often used in the search bar. If you purchase the word "personal finance" then everyone is going to click -> BUT they're not all looking for blogs. So you might purchase the term "personal finance blog" or "How to be frugal." Figure out which words give you the most conversions.

2. You might consider creating a landing page -> What are they going to see as soon as they click the ad? The homepage of your website? Most people design a webpage just for people that click the ads.

3. Market your blog by Audience as well. If I'm a student loan blog, I would set the ads only to show from 5:00pm-midnight. Why? Because that's when students are home and free to browse the internet. If my blog is talking about gambling, then I would go to google-insights and find out where in the U.S. do most people search for gambling and then set the ad to show in Nevada or something.

There's probably more ways to make adwords more effective, but I'm just a beginner.

Find a competitor that you want to Mimic, and then you can go to a site such as http://www.ispoinage.com or http://www.mixrank.com to figure out what kind of keywords and titles they are using.

Google Adwords takes a LOT of time to figure out, it's tests after tests after tests before you can figure out what works.

$100 credit won't do you much at all.

I used the free credits as well. I was making a little money from it but not enough to actually pay for ads. Google decided my site was a bridge page and disabled my ad so I wasn't able to use all of my free credits. My site is definitely not a bridge page and I tried to convince Google of that but once they make a decision they are not going to change it despite clear evidence that they are wrong.

I used free credits twice. It is very effective for clicks and extra traffic. I never tried it for conversions though.

Did you watch it carefully so they don't start charging your credit card? After your trial, did you just pause or delete your campaign?

I have used the free credits before as well. It is really hard to get people to stay and the average visitor on my blog isn't really worth much, certainly less than a click costs, so it doesn't work for me unless it is subsidised by Google.

Nice! Glad to hear. Since you had good results, would you consider using AdWords again on your own?

No, I made money but not enough to pay for AdWords going forward.

I never did it for the same reason as you. I just didn't want to give my CC info, and I didn't want to get a bill larger than my credit. I don't think it's really that beneficial for blogs.

Guess this is another reason to also have a niche site?
