Just curious. I know that you all get them, but how do you treat messages asking for a review of a new book when a free copy is provided? I know that some treat reviews as advertisements and charge accordingly, but I'm just curious as to what YOU do. This will be a big help to me. Thanks.

It simply states, "Let me know if you'd like to advertise."

Try it sometime. I think I've made at least a couple thousand from them since June 2010 who respond with, "OK!"

"Hi XXX,

Thanks for contacting me! I do accept sponsored posts (or link ads or whatever they are "selling), but there is a charge involved. Does your company have the budget to buy space on a site with an Alexa ranking of 51,500, a Mox Rank of 5, and a PR2? If so, please get back to me!"

Thanks again,

I get responses from about 25% of the people I end up sending this to. :-)

"Roxanne" hit me up too. Because I'm hopelessly sarcastic, I made the mistake of responding to "her", telling her I could use my connections to get her on the front page of The Wall Street Journal, that kind of thing.

Doing this from a Gmail address meant getting her in my chat view and receiving a bunch of texts. I learned my lesson.

What I don't get is the point behind this. I mean, this isn't spamming. This is targeted, one-on-one annoyances. And to what end? There have got to be more efficient ways to scam money out of people.

(By the way, anyone who wants to pay her to write a guest post? Hire me for half price and I'll even spell everything correctly.)

I get these types of emails on a daily basis and my response is always the same. This was sent to Roxanne on Friday

Roxanne

I would absolutely be interested in creating a mutually beneficial
relationship. My Journey to
Millions is a PR 3 with an Alexa ranking of
around 85K, it is also one of the few sites within the WiseBread top 100
that accepts text links ads and sponsored posts.

If you would like rates please let me know, and please do not offer the material as compensation because I didn't request the article.

By the way it is REALLY unprofessional to have your name on the email, tell me you
wrote those articles and then those articles have an author byline of Ryan
Smith.

Additionally, I have a huge network I would be able to get you into at a
fantastic rate. Their PRs range from 0 to 4, and we can discuss a deal
prior to me introducing them.

That middle paragraph was in response to her examples of writing.
