Negative for me - it's all about which server you get. The server I was on (one of the ones in LA) was the proverbial honeypot - it attracted tons of DDOS attacks, seemingly weekly. Think of the moral hazard - if you have a controversial site, you are more likely to seek out something like Cloudflare, since it is cheaper to have them cache you than to pay for the bandwidth to withstand an attack.

So all of the sites on my server drew the DDOSes, and DQYDJ went down. I mean, unless you believe that I was drawing the attacks - YMMV.

Cloudflare actually increased my speed quite a bit, but that is due to the amount of javascript that I am using. Since it cache's it, I don't have to worry about the slow load. I also use it with a caching plugin and it decreased my load time even more. There are some issues with caching, but if you add the cloudflare plugin, then you can go into development mode when making theme/widget changes and it will go right out. It also makes clearing your whole cloudflare cache extremely easy.

I use it on my main blog. The load time enhancement is questionable, but it does seem to have the effect of speeding up DNS lookup, which for some odd reason always slows my site down. (e.g. It takes 5-20 seconds for my browser to look up my site and 2 seconds to load it up).

Wow... glad you posted this question. It seems like a 60/40 split between positive and negative aspects. I suppose it will depend on whether there's another way to accomplish your goals without the 40% neg. on here?

Keep us posted.

I used for about 6 months, then stopped, because it actually slowed my site down quite a bit. Plus, the caching features were acting up quite a bit. It does have some great features when it comes to hackers, but understand that if you have a well optimized site, it probably won't do anything for speed for you.

I've used it for about 6 months, with no problems. I'd agree, one of the best benefits is a reduction in spam and hacking attempts. Very impressive for a free service.

I used Cloudflare for about a month. The free version set up through Hostgator. I never saw any performance difference from using it, or any other changes in my site. I deactivated it when I was doing some theme work and never bothered reactivating.

Happy New Year! I have used Cloudflare for about 4 months now and I love it. I haven't had any issues with it and it dramatically increased my website. It also has significantly decreased my comment spam and hack login attempts because they filter that riffraff out before they actually get to my site. I use the free service because it was provided by my hosting account. I would recommend it, but note that sometimes it will interfere with some plugins, such as WPtouch.

Happy new year to everyone. I was curious whether any of you use CloudFlare to speed up your sites and keep them secure. Any CloudFlare users out there? If so, I'd love to hear whether you use the free or paid plan, and whether you're happy with the service. Many thanks!
