I was using MailChimp and now I'm being forced to switch to AWeber. They didn't like that some of the key words in my posts included the word Money... seriously. I'm in touch with their support department to import my list without having them reopt in but I imagine I'll still lose some subscribers with the first email I send out in the new template.

Lance,

I'm almost positive that they'll make all of your readers re-opt in. They are all sticklers on preventing spam emails. You'll have to send them all an email and hope they click through to confirm. That's the bad part about switching, but it's better to switch now rather than later with an even larger list. Good luck on the move.

But for those of you switching, don't just paste in the list and hope subscribers opt-in again... instead have Aweber support verify the subscriber opt-ins and approve the import.

100% Agree!

On top of the affiliate issues... I moved the Create Hype list from MailChimp over to Aweber. Was having deliverablity issues with them even though the stats showed all emails delivered. First mailing from Aweber and the open rate doubled.

I've used both (switched to Aweber about 2-3 months ago). I think they're both very easy to use, but Andrea is correct: if you EVER plan to promote affiliate channels through the newsletter/list then you should NOT go with Mailchimp.

I didn't realize it was in Mailchimp's TOS when I signed up with them, but I built my list up to 800 subscribers, then after sending out a write-up about Credit Sesame had my account suspended. I then lost 600 subscribers when I moved to Aweber (because everybody had to re-opt into the "new" newsletter)...so in the end, Mailchimp didn't end up being free; it cost me a lot of subscribers and all of the time I spend building my list.

Saying all of that, I think the cost of $20/month is worth every penny (plus it's cheaper if you pay upfront). Setting automatic follow-ups is brilliant (which is how I set up my 7-step How to Become Rich e-course), and they have a pretty cool drag-and-drop system when writing a newsletter that I find very easy to use.

I'm using MailChimp and I have no plans to switch anytime soon. That said, if you use affiliate links in your emails or write a lot about making money online, be aware that you'll be violating MailChimp's TOS. Several PF bloggers have had their accounts terminated because of things like that, and ended up switching to Aweber (where both of those are okay as far as I know).

I've used both and I found MailChimp to be slightly easier as far as navigating and setting up templates, but I think both of them are great services - just depends on what you're doing with your list.

Hey everybody,

I'm looking at starting a new email list and was wondering if anybody uses MailChimp. It appears that most everybody is using AWeber, but I am wondering if it is worth the expense - especially since I don't expect to have 2,000 subscribers anytime soon. Let me know what you guys think!
