I noticed an increase and decrease in PA and DA when I start/stop submitting to blog carnivals.

also when you host a carnival your Technorati rank goes up due to blogs linking you back.

That's the only benefit I get from submitting to carnivals. Since something is better than nothing I submit to carnivals diligently.

The only time I ever get any noticeable traffic from a blog carnival is if I get chosen as an 'Editors Choice'. It's more for linking than anything, but even that I dont think is very effective given that you're one of 50 or 60 links in a typical carnival.

I still participate but have cut way back from what I used to.

I just started using them myself and, like Money Reasons, pointed out - they are great for link building and attracting more visitors to your site. As far as hosting the carnivals, look for those who require (or strongly suggest) the who's etries were included to link back the carnival. That's how you can get the most backlinks to your website. I currently know of only one carnival that has this requirement - Carnival of Personal Finance.

My thoughts on blog carnivals is that it increases both your visibility and link backs.

Visibility:

If a larger site (one with some decent traffic) host your site, and you submit a great and attention grabbing article, there is a good chance that other bloggers and reader will start to follow you. I speak from experience in this matter because this is how I learned and read a lot of blogs before I started blogging myself.

Links:

You get a link from the bloggers that choose to host a given carnival, and when you host a carnival you get links from the submitters to your page. This is a rare win-win scenario for both the carnival host and the submitters to carnivals, at least as far as search engines are concerned.

Carnivals the and the use of them becomes easy after the first time. It's intimidating the first time, but after that it's a breeze.

Bests!

You can submit your posts to blog carnivals. I use bloggercarnivals.com and blogcarnivalhq.com to submit posts. You'll get links to your site from the carnival hosts as well as exposure for your blog and posts. You'll need to link back to the hosts as a courtesy. Some carnivals like The Carnival of Personal Finance require that you don't submit the post you submit to them any where else.

Hope that helps!

Hello Yakezie,

I've been advised to engage in Blog Carnival from a established PF blogger that I follow. I have came across few of blog carnivals before, but didn't pay much attention because well, I just didn't think I was quite there yet to do anything like that. I just barely got my wordpress blog together...

Probably a dump question to most of you here, but can you guys share briefly about what it is and how it effects your blog and what to watch out for and so forth?

I presume that there will be more bloggers that come after me or in 2014 and I feel like this could be very informative to them as well.

Thanks.
