Prior to submitting a post, I check the previous week's carnival to see if my post was featured. If so, I add the requisite link to a recent post prior to sending in the new articles.

Just my technique. But keeps me honest.

Dana-I have a manual spreadsheet. Not too elegant, but it works. Mostly I wait for google alerts to find out if I was accepted.

I love Google Alerts, but I noticed that it hasn't been sending me everything that has come up lately.  Barb, have you noticed this?

If the carnival host doesn't email the sites that have been accepted, and the host blog doesn't do trackbacks, I don't go hunting to see if I got accepted.  If I get an email, I give a link back.

Count me in as Jerk 3 - no email equals no link.  I used to track down all of my submissions, but I simply don't have the time anymore.  :-) 

But 99% of carnival hosts that I know do send an email since they know us bloggers pretty well, so it's usually a non-issue.

I guess we can start a club! I don't go back to see if I've been accepted. I thought the email was a standard thing. Although, I do get Google alerts as a backup in case something goes funny with a site's trackback system.
