I agree.  As someone who likes to comment, the basic WP Commenting system is my favorite.  I hate all those systems, as they make things too difficult.

So soon after I found LiveFyre and I thought I'd cracked it, but found it really unreliable, and due to some feedback from other bloggers raising issues with it I finally moved to IntenseDebate, added the CommentLuv plugin and so far (a good month or so later) everything is working fine. I like IntenseDebate best out of these three, there's even a choice of button colour to match my colour scheme -bonus!

WP native is fine, too (.com and self-hosted) though the non-self hosted system is the one thing that might finally hurry me up to go self-hosted.

To me, it makes things so much easier, and it allows people who are not familiar with blogs (or do not want to log in with a SM site) to comment.

I've had such a problem commenting on blogs with livefyre and even worse with disqus. Often with disqus I  can't even get the applet to activate so that I can type. I've never had issues commenting on an intense debate site.

After fixing it 3(!) times, I gave up and just switched to the built-in Wordpress commenting system. I did add Akismet to cut down on spam comments. Some people have problems with false positives, but aside from trackbacks at first, I've only had one false-positive.

 

A word on IntenseDebate. As a commenter, I have a LOT of problems with ID. If I'm not already logged in, it will throw me an error about half the time I try to comment on a blog with ID.

It has worked okay for me. I did lose a ton comments when I switched over from the Blogger platform (had ID then too). There have been times, not recently, where I failed to receive notifications that people had commented (problem if you require moderation for comment approval). I haven't had many problems with it recently.
