I'm a new visitor to your site and the first question I'm asked is: Want to be Location Independent? I keep reading to find out what Location Independent even means. After reading the entire post, I still have no clue what Location Independent means. How can I want to be Location Independent if I don't know what Location Independent is?

It's great to be brief. I hate unnecessary fluff. But make sure all of what your saying is relevant and defined.

I am a fan of substance too. But it could be possible that we are not your target audience. Write in a style that will resonate with whom you want to connect. If they like very short post, if that is what they will read, then you might not need to change anything. If you are looking for audience who is going to look for substance you need to give them more.

Hey Kenneth,

Just read a couple of posts of here's my criticism (friendly and to be taken with a grain of salt):

I'm a grammar Nazi; I'm a stickler for proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc. I personally get turned off when I see multiple mistakes on a blog, especially when it's trying to get a point across or be thought provoking. I don't know if some of the mistakes are intentional or just overlooked. Depending on what the goal of your blog is and your target audience, you may want to revisit this.

Write how you talk. Blogs are different from websites in the sense that we're not trying to be dull or boring. We want to come off like we're having a conversation. Are you writing things you would say to your friends? That's a great way to find your voice: use the voice you have!

Tell a story then give an action. People love to hear stories about people, and then have it connect to an action item. Give your readers something to do or something to think about. Then ask them to sound off in the comments. On your Steve Jobs post, you posed the question "are you a ant or are you a person?" I think the anecdote before it wasn't elaborate enough for anyone to come to a conclusion and give you an answer. What are you really asking them?

I wish you came to FINCON as there were a few panels that can help you with finding your voice. Actually, Khaleef has probably one of the best summaries of the conference so check that out. I'll be checking back to see how you're doing. I hope none of this came off rude or any other negative emotion. Again, take it with a grain of salt.

To me, writing style is about personal preference. I happen to like long, structured, information-filled articles - so take what I have to say with a grain of salt.

I think the articles are too short...which has already been said. The other thing that I would like to see is structure. Even if you are just making a couple of quick statements, it would be much easier to understand, and follow, if they were structured.

Adding headers to your sections would help - even if each "section" is just a sentence or two; if you are changing subjects, then it would help to see the shift.

Also, it would be great if you highlight the main point of your posts...maybe with a couple of questions or imperatives at the end (like your question about being an ant or a person).

I agree with the above. You need longer posts, so readers will find it worth their time to visit your blog.

As for your voice, don't worry about it too much. I struggled with my blog's voice for over 2 months. All it takes is time. You'll get it eventually.

I like some more substance too (like FYSA), but I do like your style. Rather then just tell the reader that they need to change their life, you pose the question and let them get to the conclusion on their own. I think that's very important. I like it.

Don't worry about your voice imagine you are in a class and explaining to students. just talk to them slowly and capture what you're talking, a method I try often

If posts are too short or not a lot of substance, readers won't have enough time to get engaged and come back for more. Just my thoughts...

I like the posts but I am in favor of more substance. Even a short post should be packed with substance.

Just be yourself and write as if you were talking in a coffee shop to your reader. That will be the clearest way to find your voice.

I need help. I am trying to find my voice. This has been difficult to me. On my blog the latest two post have been me searching for me. Before that I don't think I was being myself. Look at the latest two post and tell me what you think. I do not care much for long post. I like the short but sweet style. Thanks.
