Alexa will do its thing, up and down, mine has slowed up as I approach 300k.  It is as Daisy said a fun metrics, I would be lying to tell you I don't watch mine weekly, but I wouldn't be too concerned with it

If Google saw a fluction of 1000 in their Alexa rank, that would cause concern, but you're ranked over 1.3 million.  Relativity is everything.  I wouldn't be concerned with fluctations of 1000 if your alexa rank is over a million.  In fact, it wouldn't concern me if its in the 10's of thousands if your alexa rank is over 1 million.

My Alexa ranking varies quite a bit too. Like has been said, don't concern yourself with it too much, it'll only get you frustrated if you do. Focus on creating more content and in time, the ranking goes down.

Good point, James. Thanks for the advice and encouragement.

I like the comparison to a person trying to lose weight checking the scale a lot. In that case it is still in that person's best interest to do the things that help lose weight. Check your rank as much as you want but don't worry about the number as long as you are commenting on other blogs, writing good content and getting more traffic.

 

I still check my rank anytime I think about it. I also look at my Adsense earnings a lot and my analytics numbers. But I just make sure that as long as I am doing the things I need to do to be successful the numbers do not matter much.

That was the problem. I got a bit frustrated and even a bit nervous. But, now I know to focus on the work, and not so much the number. Thanks for the positive feedback.

There's always a number to worry about. I was just thinking how liberating it was to get rid of my bathroom scale, and then BAM this girl named Alexa tells me about another number to think of! I decided I would follow it at first, since I bet it is a bit like a giant person deciding to get serious about weight loss. You know? This first month is going to be like cutting soda, and I'll see big wins (just like the 500 pound person would if he were to cut sugar out of his drinks).

I wouldn't be too worried about your Alexa in the beginning. It's probably still trying to determine its number and it all depends on who visits your site that has the toolbar.
