I haven't done an ebook so I can't vouch for their success but I would lean more towards posts. Once people read a book they are finished with it. If you continue to write posts on a certain subtopic you are going to be constantly giving readers new content to read which will bring them back to your site time and time again. I would think with a time crunch each week too (like the rest of us), posts would be easier to manage. Just my opinion anyways.

I agree, with the one exception that an e-book can be a good way to build subscribers if you give the e-book as a free gift.I would venture to say that very few e-books are actually read once they are downloaded, though. In that regard, posts are much more effective and they keep the traffic on your site.

Hi all,

I was tossing around the idea of putting together an ebook. With a day job, reading, writing, commenting, and networking, I don't have any time left.

eBook vs More Posts, which path would be more fruitful? Any thoughts?

Personally, I've never read an e-book from a PF blogger. I'm sure that there are some good ones but I'd much rather read good posts on a variety of subjects. When I read a book, it's either something I need for work or fiction.

I like killing two birds with one stone, but you're on another level with three birds! Way to be efficient. I will have to swing by and take notes!

Wouldn't this be your second one? I thought you already have one under your belt. Regardless, would love to hear your thoughts after you're done. Good luck!

Hey RB40,

Still tossing around some ideas. Just weighing things out. To use the Financial Blogger's recent eBook on dividend investing. He put a bunch of his tips and ideas all in a nice package. But if he wanted to, he could probably split each chapter up into post for a series on his blog. I'm thinking the impact and benefits of a book are larger, but it actually takes more work and time. Since my free time is shrinking a bit, wanted to see which path would work for me best.

I had the same dilemma so I did both at the same time. I wrote the blog posts in a 5-part series, then used those posts to make up the content of the e-book. Within a few weeks, those posts will be somewhat buried in the blog somewhere and it will be easier for people to download the e-book to get the content vs. searching for each post.

The series is going on right now and will be released as the e-book soon. I also killed a third bird with the same stone because I used the e-book as a paper I had to write for a finance class I took. Just trying to maximize my productivity
