I think it looks good too. I would look into compressing it though, it loads really slow and that might turn away some readers.

I like it (and I usually can pick anything apart...I worked in marketing for 5 years). I like the view of the water...it screams retirement. The green font reflects money and the whole thing is just peaceful and simple.

I would just say to have the "40" on the right side have the same font as the 40 in the banner.

I like #3 (and agree with Ashley that it may look even better with the coloring from #2) and am used to seeing "by" as lowercase. Good luck!

Yes, I'm using 2010. I just checked and I see your point. I think any sunset picture is going to have similar coloring. I'll keep it for now and will keep a look out for a better picture. Hopefully, I can take a nice picture myself at some point.

I'll see if I can find a different theme as well.

I hate to just repeat what everyone else said, but I do like #3 the best. "Beefing" up the '40' a little more would be great, along with having your tagline at the bottom (using a dark text).

Hopping on the new background bandwagon. I always thought you were using the default picture for your site. Maybe just go with a white background and see if Pete can add a tagline beneath your logo. Maybe consider something like "An engineer's journey to retire by 40" or something. It lets your visitors know immediately what they can expect to find on your site, and helps draw them in.
