Ah there are some great articles on how to utilize your social media accounts effectively (to get "discovered").

I can't find them right now, but the most important thing to do is engage in the communities. On twitter use #hashtags and @tag people (a lot don't respond, but don't worry about it.) Some people try to follow at least 10 new people a day and write a relevant comment after following.

Also there are events called #tweetchats where you follow along with a lot of twitter users under a hashtag. It's a great way to get noticed since the chat host will usually welcome you.

I have very little experience with facebook :/ so I may not be the right guy to give advice. Most of the people I know "like" accounts only when promotions are offered, so that may be the way to go in order to increase awareness.

Hi Pat,

It's funny b/c I have found that often my Facebook page ranks higher than my actual website simply because of relevancy and social interaction.

Recently, Facebook started allowing pages to post comments on other pages. This works similarly to posting on other blogs. You can leave "do-follow" links in your comments on other relevant Facebook pages, and that will help you attract new readers.

You could also run Facebook ads, if you wanted to pay to help generate some traffic. There are always free Facebook ad credits floating around that would let you experiment with them.

My site is indexed in Google.

I was just wondering how people could find my Facebook and Twitter accounts without actively clicking the installed links on my blog itself. Just curious, since I haven't really been a big user in the past.

give it a little time for Google crawlers crawl through your twitter and facebook accounts. after couple of days search for "compoundingreturns", if this's the name you used in Twitter/facebook. if google thinks that having no follower or friend is not good, you might be placed in 10 or 11th page.

Why are you searching your twitter account and FB account on google? Add them on your blog people will use it as per their wish

Wait. Are you saying that your site isn't being found on Google, or found on twitter? Because I see your site on Google. Could you please clarify your question? If you created a facebook page for your blog, and you entered http://www.compoundingreturns.com/ on the facebook search page, you won't find your blog (because you need to enter your facebook page NAME into the facebook search bar).

Having just created a Twitter and Facebook account, is there any secret to being found on these platforms?

When I search by my site's URL: http://www.compoundingreturns.com no results are present.

Is this a matter of timing or do I need to activate any sort of API program or script to enable this functionality...
