Definitely begin commenting on other blogs to drive strong readers and comments back. That is the best way to build your way into this thriving community.

Also, try other social networks like reddit, stumbleupon, digg, etc.

I've been doing more guest posting this month and that is bring in more traffic. Also I try to comment on as many blogs as possible each week, but there are a few that have big readerships that I know I get more traffic from, so I "comment strategically" by trying to be one of the first to comment on those blogs every morning, and I always get traffic from those sites that way. Overall readership is going up and I assume it's at least in part due to these things!

One thing I've started doing on Twitter....I created a doc where I store Twitter names of people in different fields related to my blog topic (frugal, DIY, upcycling, etc). Then when I do a blog post on one of those topics, I'll Tweet it and copy a few of the related Twitter names (@soandso) into the Tweet.

Hope this helps!

I'm stuck getting readers for http://www.ChicagoontheCheap.com. Traffic isn't bad, but it could be a lot better, and Facebook and Twitter are less help than they used to be. Any ideas of simple things that I am overlooking? Is it just trial and error?
