I prefer staff writers because I think they add new perspectives to the site. This allows you to expand your readership. Like the others have said, it depends on what your goals are.

That's a pretty good point.

As a staff writer, one's focus needs to be to jive with the tone of the blog for which they are writing.

Far too many "staff writers" I see on other blogs focus on basic "how to save more" topics in which millions of those articles already exist.

My other preference for "ghost writing" is that no staff writer guarantees that they'll be there for "x" amount of time, so when they leave - there's a void left, readers are left wondering etc etc.

As a ghost writer, a lot of the things are left internal.

From the other side I prefer being a ghost writer to a staff writer. When I write as a ghost writer it's usually with a specific article assignment and I use a tone and demeanor for that blog. When I write as a staff writer I find myself being conflicted as to what I should write for someone else vs. what I should write for my own blog. You could easily combine the two (which is my ideal) of hiring someone to write every week about specific topics in your voice.

Yes, Corey, I was going to say that I generally charge more as a ghost writer because I have to imitate someone else and I don't get any of the credit as a writer.

I would choose staff writer over ghost writer as a blogger.

That is, assuming that you aren't paying more money for someone to pretend to be you... (which would probably be more expensive than a staff writer)

As I see it, a ghost writer is less personal and probable a little bit cheaper... while a staff writer is more personal at the cost of being a little more expensive. Staff writers have a benefit of creating their own post ideas, while using a ghost writer usually requires article titles.

For me, the choice is ultimately between your desire to save more time or money. If time, then go with a staff writer as they can choose their own titles, insert posts in wordpress, etc. If money, go with a ghost writer as it will be a little cheaper and you can do some of the mundane stuff
