Thanks for sharing Suba! I had no idea that only visits by people using the Alexa toolbar would count! You learn something new every day.

Free Money Finance is another blog who has 16,000 subscribers, but I think that since the majority of them are non-bloggers, their Alexa ranking is a little higher than it would be otherwise.

Retweeted as well! 14 k subscribers is amazing! I had a question actually. I noticed that MDG's Alexa was around 80k. With 14k subscribers, I was kinda thinking that it would be higher.

Does any one see any correlation (or lack there of) between Alexa ranking and subscriber number?

Jacob, Alexa is flawed that way. It counts your visits if and only if you have the alexa tool bar installed. If you get 500 visitors and all of them have alexa installed and if MDG gets 10000 visitors a day and only 100 of them have the toolbar, your ranking will be much better than MDG.

Most of the other traffic estimators extrapolates the traffic data from alexa rank. They assume X% of regular visitors have alexa tool bar. Lets say that x is 1%, they extrapolate your traffic as 50000 visits a day.

So it is flawed, like most of the other metrics, but it is an easy to use metric and easy to manipulate as well.

Thanks all! The traffic hasn't been massive but people go back to his site and use it a lot. He's also a pretty nice guy - he's the one who ultimately convinced me that "Sustainable Personal Finance" was catchy and my best option (I asked him about a half dozen or more).

MDG was the first PF blog I really read a ton of. He has 14k subscribers and he accepted my guest post and put it up today. So far only 3 hits from his site, but i'm quite proud he liked our article and reads our site.

The article is Canadian content (as is his site) but if you want to check it out, comment, tweet, digg - whatever, that would be cool!
