Re-publishing a guest post - I've seen some who will re-publish but will start the article off with something like "Originally appeared on X," with a link back to the original. This way it's clear one article came first and you are giving credit ti the original.

If you aren't doing that, I think you should take a little time and change up the content to make it different. Otherwise, is it really a guest post? Or are you just giving them first crack at your content?

If you were to repost an old article is there any real negatives to that?

I know its not new and that it would dilute the hits the original article would get. But is there anything else to be worried about?

I mean I wouldn't mind if other bloggers wanted to recycle their articles as a guest post on my site. But maybe theres some reason we shouldn't be doing that I'm not aware of?

I've seen quite a few examples where someone will put the content from the guest post on their blog a year later. That seems to be the de facto standard, but I think I've seen six months as a time frame as well. Either way, it should be discussed during the guest post exchange process.

I agree with everyone else, but wanted to add that some bloggers may not mind if you repost it months later (because it's clear to Google which site has the original content and which site is the duplicate) but I would still get their ok before doing so. I'm not sure doing that would be very beneficial to your own blog though. If you're really wanting to share the story with your own readers, it's best to write a completely new post on the topic.

It is common to post an article stating you have guest posted at a site, with a URL included.

You should not post the same article on your site without permission from the person/site you guest posted with.

Agreed. This is just standard procedure. Plus duplicate content sucks. Who wants to read the same thing twice? Remember, we are part of the PF niche so many of our subscribers and readers are probably the same.

As I was told when I started out, it is never a good policy to re-publish duplicate content. With that said, it doesn't mean that you can't take the same topic idea and write an entirely new post. I would recommend that over trying to just copy and paste.

Agree with SPF on this one. Usually, I have seen guest posters include a link to their guest post in a "Link Roundup".

If you publish the guest post, AS IS on your website, then you creating duplicate content and that doesn't benefit anyone.

I've noticed a lot of guest posting among Yakezie members on each others blogs. I understand the benefits, but am curious about etiquette.

If I write something to post on another blog as a guest, can or should I also post it on my blog? Why or why not?

Thanks as always for all the wonderful Yakezie support, advice and encouragement!
