It lets real comments through and gets rid of the nasty stuff.

Akismet seems to catch almost all spam comments.

Every one of them has a Facebook profile as their website, and they don't include links in the comments themselves, so I'm not sure what the purpose of the spam is in the first place. What they're trying to gain from leaving the comments is irrelevant I suppose, what really matters is how I can manage them better.

 

I don't mind manually deleting the occasional spam comment, but if I'm going to get 70+ spam comments in one day, I need an automated solution to handle them. Are there any Wordpress plugins anyone can recommend to deal with this?
