Opening links in new tab:

I saw some people were concerned about not being able to open links in a new tab if right click is blocked. There are several ways to do this, so that should be a problem.

1) Hold down the ctrl button while you left click and it should open in a new tab.

2) Click using the scroll wheel should open links in a new tab.

3) Some browsers allow you to change a setting to always open new windows and links in a new tab. Take a peek and see if yours does.

Pretty much every link I ever click on the internet opens in a new tab. I've been doing this ever since the beginning of Firefox. I use the center scroll wheel to do this as I find it to be the most convenient. My web browsers often take up like 2-3GB of RAM on my computer because I have so many tabs and sites open.

Just wanted to bump this thread and say thanks Robert! I did exactly what you laid out in that post and the 2 offending blogs are gone with a notice that the blog violated the terms of service yay!

I am constantly watching my trackbacks and looking for any that are scraping my content. (I also put back the ability to right click and copy and paste.)

One website that I would highly recommend registering for is MyFreeCopyright.com. They will automatically index each new post and assign a digital fingerprint WITH the exact time it is published. I think this is the most important to proving that you registered it first.

For example, here is the copyright to my most recent post http://myfreecopyright.com/registered_mcn/B811N-98QQE-QQVUP/September_2011/E83WN-VV4NB-9JRAJ

I include this link in the letter based on what Robert has laid out in the post below.

I have too, but I read in one of Crystal's post where she asked what reader like/don't like about the blog (I think, it was a while ago), some commentors mentioned that they like that she doesn't have links that opens up new pages... I was bummed because I always had new page, because I like that. Even now I do, but now I know some people don't like that, so I mentioned that...

LaTisha, I understand why you added copy/paste and right click block. To add to Kevin's request, I have one more :) Now I can no longer right click and open new tab/window with your links. For example in your recent roundup, I usually open new tabs for all the articles I have not read and go through them one by one, now I no longer do that. May be you could add target=blank or something like that? But that annoys people too...

Oh and the point of right click is to avoid copying I guess, but I can easily copy via view source from the menu... so not sure the plugin really accomplishes that. It is a step in the right direction, but with full feed and view source enabled they can still easily copy...

Hi Latisha,

Sorry to hear this happen to you. The guy at the second blog (investment strategy tips) was good about removing my content when I expressed my disapproval. Is that the place that you were mentioning? Let me know and I will send you the latest contact info that I have in private so you can contact them directly.

P.S. please don't block copy & paste! This does nothing to stop malicious scrapers but annoys users such as myself that just want to quote something such as the title for a roundup and are blocked.

This is perfect.

@Tony, I definitely do care. If they provided a link back and just an excerpt I would be flattered but to scrape the entire post and remove all links goes beyond flattery, that's straight out theft.

I also just implemented a copyright with myfreecopyright.com. They include a copyright notice at the bottom of each feed post and give it a time stamp and unique ID.

I installed (C)Feed and Blog Protector which notifies me of scraped content and eliminates the ability to copy and paste from the site. I don't know if blog protector does that for the feed though.
