I thought it was a fun idea and you can always get someone else to re-do it later if needed.  I hope you get a ton of turn-out!    Sorry I have no design abilities myself (Mrs. Money from Ultimate Money Blog did mine and my ex-supervisor created my new logo from the one Mrs. Accountability at Out of Debt Again made for me, lol).

 

Thanks Crystal, I was thinking the same way you are.  If it does not work out I will re-do it or hire a friend to do it for me.   Feel free to tell your friends to enter the competition, it could be a quick $75....

I tried one of these competitions a few months ago and I did not care for the results. However I didn't host the contest myself - I used one one of those logo contest websites.

I've seen some really cool logos created via crowdsourcing competitions, but the ones that were submitted to me were even more amateur than the logo I already have. :) I think it's just hit and miss with these.

Good luck to you though - I'm excited to see what your readers come up with.

Thanks Kyle, you are right, it is a bit of a risk move, BUT since my site is so new the risk is really minimal.  I don't have that much to lose...   I like the interaction with readers so I am willing to give this a try.

I think it's a great idea. I hung up my designer gloves (was once my profession) because I got sick of the whole industry however as it is for fun i'll knock something up if I have time.

I guess you can always use the submitted logo for awhile then switch it out later if you wanted though.
