Hey and Money and Risk,

There is a lot written on this subject and the consensus is around 1200 - 1300 words. After that point, readers lose interest and they are less likely to comment.

A post like this should definitely be split up into 2 or 3 posts. Plus you get the added benefit of not having to write for the week, since you have 2 or 3 posts ready to go...

Must be a good post, lookforward to reading it!

Cheers

Try taking this long post, splitting it up into parts, and letting sit and stew for a while. Eventually, as you edit and re-write, more thoughts may/will pop up. Try some sub-headings. The subheadings may turn into full-fledged post titles, and eventually, your long post may morph into a multi-part series.

One great thing about finding a great topic to blog about is that in most cases (for me) I am able to split it up into a series of posts. Most of the ones that I have done that with are still in the works (I have a few different series that I am working on), I would recommend splitting your post up to give more of a theme. People are all about following a series, and it also helps when you promote old posts on social media, some may not have read it all and they will come back again.

Let us know what you decide to do, and when it will be published.

I would split it up. Most readers don't like posts that are too long and, by breaking it up, you'll encourage people to come back and read the rest. That should help give a traffic bump.

6 pages, so would that be about 3000 words? If so, I'd definately split that up into a series of posts. Having the occasional "whale" post is great, but even then it should be under 1500 words.

Don't worry about splitting it up evenly. Splitting it at switches in the topic is fine. Two years ago, I wrote a four-part post on LinkedIn and the breakdown was 500, 800, 300, & 400 words.

I wrote a "simple" post last week but it ended up being 6 pages long after editing. It started out short and pithy. On the second look, I expanded the post and added personal stories to illustrate the points because the topic is hairy and could lead to misunderstanding.

Should I split the post up into 3 articles (series) or leave it as one crazy long post. I'm not sure about the flow if I split it but I don't want to tire out the reader either.
