Seems like buying and selling websites is big business. I never knew this, can someone basically build a niche site then turn around and sell it?

Absolutely. I saw a site on flippa that I loved. I wanted to buy it but it sold for 11k. Way out of my budget. And it was only around for 5 months with a pr 4.

I then took that idea and found a niche similar to it and did an even better site.

The site has grown nicely in 100 plus days.

I won't consider selling it until there is a pr update but I got this site up and running in less than a week.

Today there are 19 articles and growing and just last week I had 66 organic searches. Needless to say I am very pleased with the growth.

Wow! That's awesome! Is there a site you used in order to learn how to build websites like this?

Actually I have been doing this for some time now and I have narrowed down how I go about doing it. There are tons of ways and for me this is the one working the most. However, I continue to grow and learn as do many others. I find getting ideas from Flippa is helpful but you have to feed out the garbage... and there is a lot.

Check out Sunil's Extra Money Blog (http://www.extramoneyblog.com). He writes a fair amount about niche sites and the tools that he uses.

All the time:

Buy a domain with decent keywords

Get a template with some related stock art

Put up a few posts (probably outsourced for about a penny a word) -- or do the "autoblog" thing and it's even easier

Get the site listed in the search engines

Possibly get a few backlinks (this can be outsourced)

Sell

Rinse

Repeat

Once you have a formula it probably takes only a few hours' work to get a salable site. That might be a high estimate.

Hi

Out of interest - how much are you willing to spend and what would your aim be in purchasing another person's blog?

Kind regards

Isaac

Hi Isaac, I am willing to spend whatever I think a site is worth in terms of the potential revenue it can produce. The reason that I am looking to buy another blog is to diversify. Right now most of my money comes from one site and since I am self employed, that is a dangerous situation in my eyes. If I could have two or three sites that are generating revenue, then if one goes down I still have others that are bringing in income.

But potential revenue is surely linked to original content being delivered? So you buy the site AND buy the author, otherwise indexing and rankings will decrease as nothing new appears... so not aimed at someone who wants to sell up and leave the blogging world?

I have heard of blogs being sold, but the original author still contributes something to keep readership.

No need to keep the author as I will transition the site to a new staff writer who will write content and I will implement SEO to get organic traffic from search engines as well. I already have several sites that I am looking into that look promising. Thanks for your input!

WLW,

Just some friendly advice, Yakezie is not really a good place to buy blogs (I, with a partner, own 9 or 10). The reason is that if the person is a member or challenger they are active and thus their pricing has more to do with either private advertising (which you may not be able to replicate, but may have to keep up due to their outstanding deals) or just pure love of their site - and you get RIDICULOUS asking prices. Like pricing so out of whack with reality that it makes the 2000 stock market look cheap.

Just trying to help out! Good luck out there,

Evan

Hey Evan!

That makes sense. I just figured that perhaps there were some people that read this forum who might be wanting to get out of the blog world, but I do agree with you that it is not the best place to find blogs for sale. I think Christopher's suggestion to go through Flippa looks like it will be my best route. I will use caution of course :)

Thanks,

Deacon
