If you install the Wordpress Jetpack plugin, they give the mobile version of your website. Just need to activate it. And it looks pretty good.

I know it's a little late but just found this post. Thanks! I've just added the Wordpress Jetpack plugin and activated the mobile optimized version of my blog. Had a few of my friends check out the blog on mobile before the plugin, it looked awful.

Thanks for the help!

I don't know how big of an issue it is, but there is a difference between a mobile theme and a responsive theme. A mobile theme is a separate theme that is sent instead of the normal one, when the user-agent returns a value for a mobile browser. So it sends only the files needed for that theme. A responsive theme that sends all of the files for that theme, including full size images and all of the css. Then it let's the browser decide which version of the theme to load.

Thanks for the great suggestions! About 1/4 of our traffic comes from tablets or phones, so I've been searching for a way to format the site better.

I can add this: I used OnSwipe for a bit. While I loved the look of it, it locked up all the time AND I had a hell of a time getting in the back end of FFA from my tablet when it was turned on.

I recently purchased Studiopress' Genesis theme and many of their child themes are "responsive" in that they change their format depending on the size of the device. I'm currently using it on Parenting Family Money.

On the one hand mobile/tablet devices are improving every day so needing a mobile theme becomes a bit less of a priority. OTOH, speed and viewing size is still important and a mobile/responsive theme will help get your content to a reader quicker than your standard theme will.

I should add... I haven't bothered with a tablet version. Rather, I let that flow through to the main theme. I've looked at it on my iPad and it looks fine without modification, so no sense in forcing a plain Jane them on tablet visitors. I guess it might not look as good on a smaller, lower end tablet, but... Whatever. Can't please everyone all the time. :-)

As Edward mentioned, it really depends on how much traffic that you are receiving through mobile/ tablet devices. But still, traffic through these methods is only going to increase, next year with smart phones and of course tablets becoming the next best way to search.

Both of my sites have mobile versions – I only use responsive themes that will allow people to read on phones or tablets. I used the WP Touch plugin for a long time, but I really didn't like the way it looked. (Edited to add - re: what Edward said above, the Pro version of WP Touch does allow you to create a theme for tablets. But it's basically the same ugly layout as you get for phones.)

I'd be interested to know whether anyone has taken an offer from one of those companies and how it panned out. I thought about it at one point but never actually did it.
