I agree - comment, but make sure it's deep/meaningful/funny/controversial. I mean, people do appreciate the 'great post' type comments, but when someone posts something they want to create a discussion about those type of comments don't add to the discourse.

If you leave epic comments? I'll certainly surf through your link, especially if I haven't seen you come through before. And yes, links matter, haha!

Commenting on others is a good way to start. When I got started I would make an effort to read and leave effective comments and feedback on 10 blogs. I think that would be a good route for you to start. The beauty of it is that other people who read and find your comment interesting will perhaps take time to visit your site and comment. - Gene

I forgot to add - linking to other blogs definitely helps, and touching base via email and twitter is also a great way to build relationships. I definitely will never link to a blog just because I want more comments or want them to link to me - I link because I think that fellow bloggers and readers of my blog will enjoy the blog that I'm linking to.

Like everyone's said, commenting on other people's blogs is definitely the way to go. I really, really love blogging and reading other people's blogs so it's not really a chore for me, but it can be time consuming. It's worth it though - the PF blogging community is so, so wonderful and building relationshps with bloggers is definitely rewarding.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I definitely wasn't expecting any comments right away and the ones I did get were a welcome surprise. I was just wondering if there is anything I should be doing differently to get more comments going forward.

I will try to gradually ramp up my commenting activity on other blogs and also try to connect with more bloggers.

Commenting on other blogs is great starting out but make sure your comments are insightful. Add your two cents...Don't just skim through the article and throw out "Great post dude!"

In addition to the above, focus on writing thought-provoking posts. I'm more likely to comment on an article comparing The Game of Basketball and Money Management than 6 Steps to Building Better Credit.

Your blog is a day old. You need to build relationships with other bloggers - go comment on their sites. Search these forums for all sorts of strategies.

New blogs don't just take off with wild popularity. You need content, consistency and some history before you can expect mass comments or visits.

I think a comment on your first day is actually great. It's not uncommon for a new blog to go without comments for months. The more you interact with others and get your content out there, the more likely people are to visit and comment.

Yes, commenting on other blogs will definitely get you noticed. When I see someone leave a few comments on my blog with a link to one I haven't read, eventually it will get my attention.

Participation and content are key.

Be patient.

So I just launched my new blog yesterday and not surprisingly I've only had one person post a comment. Obviously there is little incentive to comment on a new blog. Do you have any recommendations on how to get more comments? Is it mostly going to come down to my networking activity early on?
