Hi Brandy, first of all congratulations on your first offer! I still remember getting mine a year or so ago--it was $10 an article and it took me anywhere between 1-2 hours to write. Fortunately, I'm averaging much more now, and over time you'll know a little more about what you should expect (and that should increase over time). All in all, if you feel it's a good use of your time, go for it. And remember it's not only about the money. Sometimes you have to do a little pro bono or near pro bono stuff to get your name out there.

Hi Brandy,

Getting started with freelance writing is tough. In the beginning, I wouldn't worry too much about price, especially if the website is reputable and can be pointed to for reference for that next gig. I freelance here and there and I have gotten to the point of expecting at least $40 for a 1,600 word post. As I become even more established, I expect this rate will rise to higher still.

Best of luck to you and your freelancing!

Hello Yakezie-ites,

I have been offered to write a post and they said they would actually pay me to do it. My first offer ever. Gotta say I'm excited. Although I do have my doubts. I was hoping I could get some opinions from those of you who have more experience with freelancing.

They have offered to pay me $15 per 1000-1500 words. It takes me about 2 hours or so to write something that long. This seems like so little money for 2 hours work...but I would be getting paid. Is it worth it since I am just starting out or would you negotiate?

FYI: I have already written two posts for free on their website to help get our blog's name out there.

Thanks for your input and advice!

Brandy
