Miss T, comments are good. MITR and SPF just meant that in a lighter sense.

Good to know. I was thinking all this effort I have been doing on trying to get comments and discussion going was going to hurt me. It's a relief it's not.

That is actually a really good point....so the more comments I get, Google will view me poorly lol

Ya, those monster sites that get hundreds of comments on their articles get smoked by Google. :|

Strange. You would think comments would be a good thing. Especially if they are no follow. Am I wrong?

To test this theory more, I've reinstalled the commentluv plugin (nofollow of course). I'm gonna see how that goes, and I'll keep you guys updated.

I thought the more comments, the better. Google views more comments as more people enjoying the blog post, hence they rank it higher in the SERPs.

Just out of curiosity, how is having comment luv (you can easily set it to no follow, so I am assuming it was set to nofollow) different than having double the amount of comments? And I thought google puts really less values on the comment links anyways? Not questioning or anything, just curious about how it works.

Thanks for the great conversation. I currently don't have commentluv installed, but have searched the settings in wordpress to see if the links set up in my comments are do follow or no follow, and have no clue. Any tips for a newbie? Is there an easy way to find this out?

I can't say with 100% certainty that removing it was the source of additional search engine traffic, but I can say that I see no reason to bring it back to life.

I cant imagine search engine hits going up within 24 hours after removing commentluv.

by the way, has anyone confirmed that commentluv hurts PR?

It may not hurt pr that much. But it seems like Google has its own internal pr that's constantly updated, and the pr rank that's available to the public isn't always in line with the internal one. Just because it doesn't hurt pr doesn't mean it won't hurt your rankings. Your rankings aren't a direct deviation off of the PR.
