My feel about this is that I don't care if commenters disagree with what I have to say- that sparks a healthy debate, which I think is good for a blog. But if commenters seem to be bashing me or my site in some way I don't approve it (or I may just edit out the parts of their comment that are bashing me). They can bash me all they want somewhere else, but not on my website!

This isn't a technical question, it's one of personal preference… to me, if you have already approved and responded to the comments it seems that you answered your own question.

I'm not trying to be rude, I just don't think that someone else's opinion should sway a decision you already made…decide what works for you and your site and then stick with it! That's the only advice I have.

Happy blogging!

Correct - I'm comfortable having approved and responded to these. As I said, I'm sure this will happen in the future and looking for others' thoughts on how they handle it so I'll have a good plan to stick to from here on out.

I like the rude / profanity line in the sand.

How do y'all handle negative comments? Do you approve them because they aren't spam? Delete anything that doesn't gush love for you?

I ask because my site does often mention my religious beliefs. And I got a comment the other day that wasn't against me or my post, but did declare God doesn't exist. Well, ok. Certainly this is a discussion I could have in person with someone, but the person registered for the comment with the name J Blow, obviously not really looking for a constructive discussion. I assume I'll get lots of these in the future.

I also got called an idiot who is running the economy into the ground (?!?!?!).

I published both and responded to both. But what is your policy? Should I reconsider?
