You're doing well at 1 hour per article. It can take me up to 10 hours to write an article sometimes. I think I'm the world's slowest writer. I need to do something to fix that and spend less time wasting time!

Right now I'm shooting for 1 good post a week and maybe finding a way to work in a 2nd shorter but useful post. I'll figure it out eventually!

Thing is SM, almost every post you write is a pillar post - thousands of words. The level of detail you put into your precise research and well thought out article structure (not to mention the content itself) should take hours. Many of my posts, which usually land in the 1500-2000 word range take me 4-6 hours to research, write and edit.

I too find that I shoot for 3 articles a week. Tues/Thurs are open to guest posts, special features, noteworthy news that can't be predicted, etc. I am going to keep it at 3 (with 2 give or take for the aforementioned features) and focus my energy on producing content with better video/photo quality and branching out to offer content on other sites as well.

I'm all for quality about quantity and whatever # that is for you is good. You may find it fluctuates and that's okay too!

I personally have written three articles a week for the last two years at least. Works well for me and my readers. One of the articles if my Frugal Confessions Friday where I show living proof of living in frugal decadence, and then my readers comment about their own ways they saved money over the last several weeks. So really, just two longer, researched articles, and then one much shorter one.

I'm experimenting with a new routine now that my children are at scholl most of the day. I'm aiming for 5 posts per week, plus a weekend Yakezie review. The 5 weekly posts won't all be stellar academic pieces, but I'm ok sharing some shorter articles with a useful idea or video.

So far I'm holding up ok, but it's challenging. I spend more time reading and commenting on other blogs than producing my own.

Congrats on the Alexa rating Andrea! I

I struggled with this as first too, but I've seem to find a happy medium at 3-4 articles a week. When you're just starting out you definitely want to feed the Google giant with new content, but if you're posting everyday you're never going to have enough time to market and build enough backlinks to all those articles.

I think it also depend on the type of posts you're creating. Sites like MoneySavingMom post 15+ posts a day because they are short and mainly links to deals, contests, etc. My content is a little longer and include homework assignments for my readers, so I don't want to overload them.

Great job on the Alexa!

I started at 5 posts a week also with a roundup on Saturdays. I realized that 5 posts was way too many for me and I was even unemployed at the time. Now I focus on getting at least 2 good posts a week with no more than one promotional or sponsored post a week. I also do a roundup on Sunday, though I miss one occasionally.

I also notice that posting less often gives time for more bloggers and friends to comment. But if you are interested in just building content then 5 posts a week is ideal. Mark over at Buy Like Buffett does at least 1 to 2 posts a day but he has like 3 staff writers.

I was starting off wanting to write the most articles in a week that I could. My first week was 4, then 5. This week I think I'll find a happy medium with 3... likely Mon, Weds, Fri. I'm very anal when it comes to my article writing and it takes me at minimum an hour (with the pictures and making it look professional).

I found with the 5 articles, I was just putting up pieces to put up pieces. My content wasn't as focused and useful. I did create a nice "MainstreamMom Headquarters" excel sheet... which includes my weekly posts. So now I have post ideas for the next couple months and I can prepare ahead of time.(It also contains my stats for the week, guest post sites, project ideas, goals, newsletter topics etc.)

Just wanted to give my two cents on writing articles and what has ended up working for me.

Also, I'm at 300k in Alexa! (I started in the millions only three weeks ago).

Thanks!

Andrea

What works for everyone is different. If your happy medium is three posts a week that is totally fine. I think consistancy matters more than frequency. I personally do 5 days a week but I started doing 7 and found that was too much. I can keep up 5 but only because of my staff writers. If I didn't have them it would be 2-3 a week.
