I did an experiment to post one more article per week - I was at 3 (2 long-form and 1 roundup).

John, I unsubscribed but only because of your excerpts. Your content is high quality, so I'll resubscribe via RSS.

I think it depends on how long this goes on for. If it's months and months, your readers might start feeling disengaged. If it's a couple of months, I would think you'd be fine. I think it depends more on whether you do things like respond to your comments and comment on other blogs. When I was on a temporary assignment last month, i had to cut my posting down, but I also cut out commenting pretty much completely, and I felt a definite pullback from my readers more so from that decision than from cutting out a post.

I don't think posting too little will cause a loss in subscribers...I would actually think the opposite. I'll typically unsubscribe only if I'm bombarded with more emails than usual and I find the posts to be irrelevant.

This is true for me as well. I don't like receiving too many posts, so I am more likely to subscribe if one posts less frequently.

In the next few months I am going to work on a big project (blog related but at the same time not quite.) There is no way I can keep up with writing three posts a week. Therefore, I am planning to cut it down to two posts, sometimes even to one. I really want to finish this project before FINCON12.

Am I going to see a substantial loss of my subscribers and/or traffic? Anyone is willing to share their opinion and/or experience with cutting down on posting? What did it do to your traffic, subscriber base and so on?

I went 7 months without posting a single thing and loss less than 5% of subscribers.

I haven't had this experience, but it is difficult to answer without knowing how much your traffic has grown, if you have been able to turn that traffic into affiliate income, and if what you are working on will pay off down the road. Sorry, not much help here. :)

Income is the least of my worries. Subscribers - the biggest. I feel guilty when I don't post, especially now that my subs numbers are growing almost every day. I feel like I will be letting people down. Does it make sense?

Re: the project - yes, if it is done right, it will be so worth it. :) That's why I want to do my best and put into it as much work and time as I can.
