We started a mozRank movement a year ago when the Google PR didn't update for 11 months, we can surely do it again. It's up to you guys to highlight alternatives. I've seen clients become really receptive to mozRank after the movement began.

Hank google dropped my PR to 0. My search traffic at the time was 40% of my blog traffic. Now (after the downgrade) it's near 60% of my traffic.

The thing is...I don't think PR has a much of an impact on search results as we have been led to believe. Certainly in the past it has, but not any longer. It has seemingly been replaced by domain authority (DA) which Google keeps to itself. I'm willing to bet no one has seen a drop in their search traffic.

If everybody knows it's a monopolistic maneuver by Google, why don't bloggers and advertisers alike simply boycott the PR ranking system? Easier said than done, I know, but seriously a 1 to 10 scale that updates only every few months or so? The PR ranking system sucks, but so many advertisers rely on it.

I like Crystal's (from Budgeting In The Fun Stuff) sentiment on this issue, as she urges advertisers to focus more on MozRank and Domain Authority.

Wow. Yes, that's EXACTLY what's happening. It's monopolistic, totalitarian... and wrong. I saw something about adding "no follow" to ads to make them comply?? Some chick on a site I found tonight openly accepts ads, and she says they have to be no follow to comply with G, and her pr is 3. Still. So maybe...

As far as I can tell, the only reason for a visible PR is to draw advertisers to sites so that G can find out who those advertisers are and punish both them and anyone posting their links. Fortunately, I wasn't harmed by the G-slap (or whatever you kids are calling it these days). And I'm not sure why. Either way, it's moments like these that really make us think about why we can't depend on the almighty Google to bring traffic to our website. I've known for YEARS the importance of building an email list. And finally got serious, within the last couple of days, about building one. Now I just have to figure out a way to repurpose my content across various platforms so that my income doesn't dry up due to one company's actions. That's terrifying!

Yea, that's why I wrote it. All the G changes are doing that to a lot of bloggers. I hope the post puts things on perspective a little for people. Sorry that happened to you!! :(

Hi y'all! I wrote a post about Internet marketing for bloggers because I've been reading on here about people who've suffered ad revenue losses because of G slaps to their PR and it made me sad. I don't know if it's appropriate to link here, so just head to my blog if you're interested. I just thought it was timely, and I've been studying marketing for awhile so I thought I'd share to try to help some people with some new ideas. I hope that's ok. Thanks.
