When I interviewed candidates. I always looked for qualified people first and then I looked for people who would fit in. There is definitely an edge for attractive people particularly those who fit the first two categories. Being attractive is not just looks, but personality. Grooming is equally important. You want to look as good as you can so you feel confident and you leave a good impression.

As far as revealing the pregnancy, do you plan to work late into the pregnancy? Do you plan to return to work? If yes to these questions, I would not volunteer the information. Right or wrong, it would be like any other illness. Good luck.

I commented, but I think this is important too. This sounds obnoxious I know, but I am horrible looking or anything, and I'm not stupid by any means, but I had a terrible time getting jobs when I had social anxiety. Because....I was anxious! It made people uncomfortable, and they didn't want to hire me.

I think the key is to smile and be friendly. This is tough if you are really shy, but the more personable you can be the better. I've interviewed quite a bit of people and the ones that look like they are headed to a funeral almost never get the job. I worked in software so a lot of the interviewees tended to look down at their shoes and were much more comfortable typing code than talking to people. While I certainly wanted to hire the most talented developer I also realized that you have to work with and be able to communicate with people. Communication is a real art and if you can smile, present yourself well and prove that you have solid communication skills I bet you'll get the job. In fact, in my experience I have not always been the most qualified interviewee but I have never gone on an interview that didn't end in an offer. After the fact the interviewers have told me it's solid communication and the ability and willingness to learn that got me the job. Good luck!

I'm a 5'2" chubby, really-white girl with red hair but I've gotten every job I ever interviewed for. Most of my bosses later told me that my energy and smarts got me the job. I guess I reek of bouncy...

I think if you dress appropriately, arrive early, smile, and know your stuff too, you are good to go. You don't have to be super smart or super pretty, you just have to fit well for the interviewer and be able to learn the job. I find being friendly, listening, answering the basics correctly, and making a few witty jokes works with 99% of interviewers.

And for the love of god people - do not wear too much perfume or cologne...it's nauseating in an interview room...

Left you a comment. People always gravitate toward beauty because that's human nature. So maximize what you have and who you are in every way because people are attracted to beautiful personalities too! I've known a lot of people over the years who weren't that physically attractive but their personality really made them shine.

I just posted a comment. It does mostly come down to the type of job. If possible find out how other people there dress and present themselves. The sex of the person doing the hiring may play a role too.
