I second this! I've had horrific hacking with my GoDaddy hosted sites as some of you know. Some of my sites were blacklisted by Google as hack sites. I had to become a virtual expert overnight to fix it. My non-Go Daddy sites were always fine.

Yes, stay away from GoDaddy as your web host. I had a terrible experience with them. I changed my host within one month of the 3-months plan I bought from them. I was not able to get back my money, what a waste. When I was hosting with them, my site is down a lot of times and there are always weird errors happening that almost made me crazy figuring out how to fix.

If I was to start over I would certainly use someone else.

Our sites wer just down for about a week due to Godaddy. They had to transfer us to a better server and it took 5 times longer than expected. Whats worse is they told us it was done multiple times when it wasn't. My advice is if you need something done, call as often as you can.

I use GoDaddy for my domains, but would never consider their hosting. Too many horror stories.

For VPS? RocketVPS, Knownhost (still RocketVPS but for people who need managed), and PowerVPS have the best uptime of any providers out there. I have a couple of clients with dedicated servers through RocketVPS and their customer service is the best I've ever seen (not to mention their pricing, which is awesome).

Hostgator has the same problem with VPS that they have with shared - they cram way more accounts onto one physical machine than they should. Which is fine until multiple VPS on the same rack have CPU load spikes at the same time. And don't get me started on the outrageous pricing. But hey, if HG meets your needs, that's the important thing.

Thanks Andrea. I will definitely look at your hosting service, and at HostGator. I only signed up for a month of hosting with GoDaddy for this specific reason, so I think a change may be in my future.

Obviously I recommend my own Nuts and Bolts Hosting since it's cheap and has pretty awesome customer service. :D

Other than that, the only shared host I can recommend is HostGator. The rest are slow, unreliable, and/or have crappy customer service. (You'll see a ton of recommendations for Bluehost, but that's because of their high payout for affiliate sales; Bluehost throttles almost as much as GoDaddy and their support staff is awful. I had to call once on behalf of a client and the guy actually said, "Hang on, I'll have to google that.")

As long as your traffic doesn't expand beyond what shared allows, you'll be fine with HostGator. I do NOT recommend them if you need a VPS or dedicated server as there are much better providers out there.

Uh-oh. I host with GoDaddy for my new blog. I hope I am not going to run into these issues. What are some hosting companies that you guys would recommend? I'm new to all of this and GoDaddy was the cheapest I could find so I just went with them.
