That's a really good point. I guess the real question is the quality of the readers from giveaways. Is it worth a $1 to you? Anyone else have any interesting ideas on how to increase your reader growth? Currently, I"m just trying to write high quality SEO articles for my target audience.

I feel pretty clueless about reader growth. Mine seems to be mostly organic growth based on search and people clicking over from comments left on other blogs.

If I had sponsors who offered me freebies, I'd probably be more likely to go down the giveaway road. It's a reasonable marketing tactic, but I question the quality of the readers garnered in that fashion. Are they true fans or just fans of freebies? What is their behavior on my site and how does that compare to my more traditional readers? I don't have the answers obviously, but I find the questions interesting to contemplate.

I've kept 95% of the subscribers gained from giveaways. I would say most giveaways garner me 1 subscriber for every dollar spent (if I actually spent the money).

My current giveaway didn't cost anything out of pocket because I won the gift card at BlogHer. Many of my giveaways are for things I'm getting for free or sponsored.

Often times, yes. Just ask Justin from MITR. He's a huge fan of doing giveaways, and it's worked pretty well for him.

I comment a lot. I find by engaging in conversation on other blogs, people come to my blog and engage. It's a win win.

In regards to giveaways, I guess the real question is how much you're willing to spend to acquire 1 subscriber. For example, if you decide to do a $50 gift card giveaway, and you can 25 new subscribers, are they really worth $2/each?

If anyone has done giveaways, I think it will be useful to share how many subscribers you got, and how much your giveaway was. Thanks in advance.

There was a recent thread on what your biggest challenges are, and I wanted to use that to start this topic. Many of us continue to write articles, participate in guest posts/swaps, but is this merely enough to attract new subscribers and readers to the blog?

I was thinking of different ways to increase your subscribers and visitors, and I wanted to ask the community on what their thoughts were on this. I would say about 60-65% of my readers come organically from Google, but the numbers are a bit stagnant over the last few months.

What did you do to get over this hump? I would appreciate all comments and feedbacks, and I'm sure other bloggers would love to hear about this as well!
