It might be more work- but I think it's worth it to allow both sides of my personality come out.

I've got two blogs. The biggest thing to remember is to be prepared for doubling your workload. Not only are you writing twice as many posts, you are responding to (hopefully) twice as many comments, and you need to do twice as much blog marketing by commenting on twice as many other blogs, write twice as many guest posts for other sites, submit to twice as many carnivals, twice as much social media, etc.

 

That said, I definately think it's worth it. While I have tough keeping up sometimes, my two sites fill different needs for me personally. Edward Antrobus has a much more community feel, with more comments, inclusion in Yakezie, etc. If You Can Read, You Can Cook, makes me a lot more money, lets me express my creativity better, and helps many more people.

You'll do well to hold down two blogs though, i suppose it would be a great challenge to undertake! If you manage to keep them both under control and interesting, you could well find yourself as a greatly respected blogger in your community!

I have a different opinion, well slightly. When you open a second blog your chances of making it in to A list with your first blog becomes dimmer. You may manage it still but, not with a day job. Impossible. So, you end up having two/three/four mediocre blogs at the end. 

You may get decent money every month from your blogs but that's it. Many may think blogs as babies and you can manage multiple but, I think they are your self extension or your spouse, if you may..

That's a good point, SB. Personally, I didn't start with any aspiration or hope of becoming an A-lister, so starting my second blog didn't affect that in any way. I also like your comparison to blogs being like spouses. My wife has referred to my sites as "the other woman" before!

I plan on starting another blog very soon (next month). What tips do you have for those who are wanting to start a second one? I honestly just have too many ideas lately, and a second blog would help cure that. Oh yeah, and also because I love blogging. The site is being designed professionally (by the lovely Andrea) and will be on WordPress as well (and mine is getting moved also!).

I will be hiring someone to help me with the second blog as well. I haven't narrowed down a specific focus (yet again, because I have so many ideas).
