Mine have recently been personal finance stories for the most part: my own experiences related to personal finance and making money. Or my opinions on stuff.

I feel mine is the same (although some people would say my tent pole is retirement). Retirement is my goal but I write about money management I guess.

Hi Super Frugalette,

Your blog is pretty defined as well. I'm trying to define myself better. I think my worthwhile feeling comes from two angles. If a reader was inspired to action or if my reader was entertained that their day is better than it was before reading my post. The Holy Grail, maybe one day I can consistently do both!

Hi Miss T,

I like how you clearly define your topics and you seem to be following it to a T! I think I throw out these questions because I am trying to get a clearer picture for myself. I seem to be going 40% personal finance topics, 40% personal development, and 20% entertainment. Let's see if I stick with this or take a radical turn at the end of the year.

I am about frugality from a fashionable woman's perspective. This means that it is going to be personal since women tend to be relationship driven, yet, informational. I become the most excited when a reader tries something that I have suggested and LOVES it. It makes blogging so worthwhile.

I try to have a limited amount of topics but also a variety within each of them. I would say my blog focuses mostly on good money management and being green. I often tie the two together. 60 percent or so would fall here. There other 40 is split between health tips, productivity, gardening, career, and frugality.

Hi Matt,

I think my loose definition of research is providing analysis and detailed breakdowns of concepts. If I needed help with a research paper, I go to a "research" blog as a resource. On the personal stories side, my example would be someone who had tons of debt and explains their process and experience to get out. Hopefully their story provides inspiration and a model for others to follow.

Good perspective

Thanks for chiming in. Great point about evergreen posts. I may need to think longer about they way I tackle posts from my personal stories angle. Will it stand the test of time?

I would definitely fall into the research category. I don't think I've shared many personal stories on my blog. I focus on 'evergreen' posts that would still be relevant in a few years.

If I had to pick a category it would be investing first then personal finance second.

I totally respect research blogs. There is a lot of work involved. I'm a bum, too. Since I know I'm not a good researcher, I go the other route, personal stories, experiences, and opinions.

Perhaps I'm being too ambitious. What do you think would be a good term to describe a combo blog like yours? Part personal stories, part research? Combo, hybrid? Don't bother, too restrictive?
