Thanks for asking this question! I often have wonder this myself! I have a Carnival Section in my weekly "MR Cache ..." roundup, that I put all my carnival linkbacks in.

Only sometimes do I tweet them though... I don't know if tweet a roundup drives any traffic to it? What do you think?

I find that 10 posts are easy to keep tack of. I take my hat off to people that can do massive roundups.

Although, I'm not doing much of anything but traveling now (to our new land across the country) I was glad to see this. I feel the same way. Link round ups take a ton of time, yield not too much interest, and in my opinion, may have gotten a bit formulaic. I am also scaling back a bit and linking only to my absolute favs.

I did as well. I just can't keep up with them. I have since launched the Link Love carnival which people can submit to on my blog. It's starting slow but it will build momentum over time I am sure. I have had great encouragement from those who have already participated.

Thanks everyone! This is exactly the feedback I was looking for. Once I start submitting to Carnivals again, I will go back to my practice of either including them in my roundup, or adding them to the bottom of the actual article.

I think you are expected to link back to the carnival. I don't know that a trackback is what most of thinking of.

I think typing it out is better since it makes sure that the host gets a link and can add am additional traffic boost.

I just include a section in my weekly roundup. I figure my trackbacks sometimes get eaten as spam, so I lean to the safe side. Plus, it seems nicer to take the minute or two to type it out since it does take 3-6 hours to host...

Personally, I think trackbacks would be fine. When I host carnivals, the main things I am looking for is 1) being exposed to new blogs/bloggers and 2) getting a little temporary boost in traffic.
