I agree with JT; PR doesn't influence your traffic (I have a PR0 blog with similar traffic to my PR3 and PR5 blogs!).

The trick to get better ranking is link juice.... as simple as that!

@SPF,

I'm not too familiar with Mozrank... how "reliable" is it? I mean, what does it measure? All my sites are 5... so it doesn't mean much to me!

mozRank measures SEO authority, I think. And it has been around for a good long time.

When I see a mozRank list that also has PR it seems the two are highly correlated. Good mozRank is usually about the same PR (+/- 1 or so). Thing is, those sites w/ no PR get picked up by moz much quicker. Google mozrank to get more info ...

In the end I guess we need better link juice. No matter how much I comment and network we seem stalled on that front (and you've commented here that I comment on blogs like mad TFB!). At this point i'm finding that our weekend reading isn't even getting "thank yous" beyond 3-4 bloggers - even when we highlight 10-25 blogs. Not sure that whole night of reviewing and effort is worth it ... tho I do enjoy it. If we ultimately need to put more into original content our always original and thoughtful link love may have to go.

I understand your frustration. You comment, you link and not much is happening on the other side. Unfortunately, this is the hard truth about blogging; this ain't easy! There are tons and tons of new PF blogs since 2007 and while readers must make a choice of following a few, bigger bloggers will have a hard time connecting to new bloggers as they must spend significant time managing their own blog. Don't quit it will pay off. This is my advice ;-).

As for Mozrank, not sure it works well... my PR5 and PR0 site has the same Mozrank. 2 of my sites have over 40,000 visits per month and they have the same Morzank than my smaller websites... did I ever say that I hate rankings? hahaha! To me, the only stats that worth something is traffic and how much I make. All the other ranking (including PR) are worthless to me.

Google doesn't share its algorithm but I would say that along with links to your site, it probably also track clicks from searches. For example, if in a search for a keyword, the first click a user does will have an impact on the algorithm as the user has told Google that the first click essentially correspond more closely to what it was searching for. Now you do that for every search for every users, that information brings weight along with the links. Since Google can't really replicate what a human sees, I am sure it relies on the click behavior of humans to feed its data as well.

It probably also considers how long search users continue to make it a top search versus new entries. For example, it's possible that a competitor comes in and all first click are now on the competition, slowly it builds credential for that new link even with less 'link juice'. Don't underestimate how well you can learn from human clicks, look at all the data Google Analytics track from user action. When you do a search, google tracks all that information.

As much as the crawlers build a good view around links, your keywords and page titles have a huge impact on the first click a user will do. It's your chance to make a first impression so to speak Just ask yourself when you pick a title if you would click on it first in a list of keyword searches. If not, then it probably will take time to move up the list.

Here is how to get "unindexed" pages indexed in a jiffy

Search engines take time indexing, especially as your website gets larger. Spiders have a difficult time crawling every single URL, especially the deeper and larger you become.

So do the sitemap thing as folks have recommended, however this will still leave you with some that are not indexed

Periodically take stock on pages not indexed

Write a short article of 500 words for each of those pages and submit to a high PR directory such as ezinearticles

When you submit, include 2 links in your article, toward the bottom preferably. One link to your home page and the other to the specific webpage or post that is not indexed. Both links should contain anchor text that is relevant to pages you are linking to.

Example: If the page you are linking to is about gifting carnations and your target keyword for which that page is optimized for is "carnation", then make sure the anchor text contains "carnation" somewhere in it.

This will not only index you almost instantly, but also give a PR boost (if you care for it) by passing some page rank juice.

This strategy is called deep linking and is one I use whenever I launch a niche website. It takes me less than 30 days to get my entire website crawled and indexed.

Hope that helps.

PageRank is not at all an indicator of search results then? I would think Google would give preference to the most authoritative sites over say, ours. I could SEO a keyword as well as CNN but CNN has the author-a-tay and I do not - I doubt i'd rank better than them given the exact same SEO.

-----------------------------

It's an indicator, but not much more than that. Since probably...2006-2007, Pagerank hasn't really meant much of anything. Authority in Google can be earned without Pagerank, though Pagerank cannot be earned without authority, if that makes any sense.

Basically, Pagerank means nothing to your positions in the SERPs, unless your Pagerank was earned entirely via methods that would boost you in the results pages. I've a site with homepage PR that ranges from 5-6 and subpages all with a PR4+, and its pages rank relatively the same as a P4-6 as they did as a PR2 when I bought it.

My site is newer as well. I am having no trouble getting indexed, but have yet to get a page rank. I have heard Google only updates page ranks once or twice a year at random times so I am not too optimistic of my rank changing anytime soon.

Does anyone know how often Mozz ranks are updated?

Same here - up since late November, no PR.

mozRank updates somewhat frequently. I know we were are at 5.42 for a month, then 4.72 a month, then back to 5.42 for a week and now back to 4.72. I have no idea how they time their updates however.
