I know how you feel. I save my Twitter follow alerts and check each new follower every few weeks (I really need to do this more often). I use friend or follow as well, I think it's a great tool for this kind of thing!

I share this pet-peeve with you Kay Lynn. I had a clean-out a few weeks ago but need to reconcile my followers again as they seem to be out of balance with my following list. This is an ironically anti-social behavior for social media!

I went through friendorfollow.com list so I could weed out people who follow me just until I follow back and found many PF bloggers that didn't follow back; including a handful of Yakezie members/challengers.

Thanks for letting me vent about one of my twitter pet peeves! What is yours?

When I read your post, I immediately checked to see if I was following you. I think twitter can get muddled for most people. I have used programs to stop following people who no longer tweet and have checked out people that are following me.

I do not know what I would do without Hootsuite. I can see everything at once. Mentions, stream, #yakezie, direct messages...

I usually check out new follows once a week (I have tags in Thunderbird for Twitter notifications that I group and then run through).

I run a follower manager once every couple of months or so.

I'm getting pickier about who I follow back. If it's an active blogger, I'll usually follow back, even if it's a newer blogger. Others? Maybe, maybe not.

All in all, it does look a little better if you have more followers than those you are following, so that's good reason to unfollow those users that you can take or leave their tweets but who don't at least follow you back.

I just logged into Twitter for the first time in a month or so. There were a couple of Yakezie people who were following me that I hadn't followed yet. If I'm not following any Yakezie people that are following me it is probably because I don't know they are following me since I rarely get on Twitter.

I hate that I never have time to read the direct messages so people always think I am ignoring them!

I have had all direct messages forwarded to me and try to simply email the specific blogger back if I don't make time for Twitter...it is a bit overwhelming though. Sometimes I just include the blogger in my roundup or something as a thank you if I was already working on it. Whatever's easy and shows appreciation...I'm generally lazy like that...

I didn't know you could forward them Crystal. I am going to do that.
