Good incentive to stick in some captions. I usually just stick in the flickr photo from creative commons of my choosing. Thanks for the info-very helpful.

I was wondering if anyone had any input on the number of images you should use, or any ideas that have worked for them. As for myself, I really like images on blog posts, but sometimes I worry that there are too many, or too many in the wrong places.

Example: my post for today http://moneymamba.com/why-you-.....you-think/

I have four pictures total. One is just at the top for decoration purposes. One is an "example" persay, and two are references. Obviously that's a lot of pictures for such a short post.

What's your opinion? Be critical! I can handle it. (and encourage it!)

Yea I agree 4 images should be fine. I don't think there is a set amount of images you should use, as long as they all help relay to your reader what you are trying to say in you post. I generally use one at the top just to grab my readers, but different methods work for different people.

I include usually 1 image per post, and make sure the alternate text for the photo is geared towards the keywords i'm targeting. SEO benefits and all as mentioned above.

To make sure the image is as small as possible I use a plugin for all my sites called WP Smush.it that basically crunches every image you upload to a smaller file size by removing unnecessary bits here and there.. That means your site's page can load faster, while still having images..remember, the faster your page can load, the better -so it's a good idea to try and reduce your image sizes as much as possible. Something to consider:

I didn't realize that the captions were picked up by the search engines. I guess that's another point of SEO focus!

I usually keep it to one image per post. Unless I am hosting a blog carnival, and the theme calls for more pictures. I think graphs and tables specifically supporting your content is all right though.

For your specific case, I would probably get rid of the income-expenses = earnings graphic, and keep the other ones.

If you want a really attractive image, you can just use a picture of me

In all seriousness, use at least one image per post, but as brokeprofessional mentioned, images take longer to load than text. Don't over-do it and don't use files with too big of a size. As long as it is balanced and relevant, images are great.

It is pretty awesome! The plugin scans flickr for you and lets you state if you use the images for commercial purposes or not. The images are provided in S/M/L format to inset into your post and the links to the photo provider are automatically added to your post as well. Pretty cool.
