I don't have strict guidelines either. Most of my posts are around 800 words with some up to 1200-1400. I try to limit at 1500 max because I want it to be an easy and entertaining read. One picture at the start of the post, more if it is relevant or saves a paragraph of explanation. That's about it!

I don't really have any guidelines. I say what I want to say without worrying about adding fluff to meet a word count quota. I add pictures when I find something awesome or have the time.

For longer posts, I think it's good to break things up a bit. Whether through the use of headings, images, quote format or horizontal lines.

I think the most important thing is to say what needs to be said and not kill the reader's eyes.

I don't really have guidelines for my posts either.

I try to make sure all my posts are at least 500 words long , which usually isn't a problem. After that my main focus is to write something that's coherent and as interesting as I can make it be. Once I finish writing I go back and format/add images to make it a little more visually appealing to the reader. It's certainly not a scientific process I have by any means!

I'm supposed to have guidelines?? Oh dear...

ahaha!

Well I guess you don't NEED too. But if you are trying to have an end goal/strategy with your blog there are things to think about when writing your posts and how you structure it.

This is all starting to make sense for me too. A good site to check out for this kind of stuff is copyblogger.com

There is just tons of information - hard to sift through what you really want/need to know. This is why I like asking the community of people who can just give it to me honest and simple.

In general, I am trying to write longer posts than I did last year. I used to write between 300-500 and now try to do at least 600-800. If I am mentioning a specific company around mid-way through a post, I will try to include some sort of image, but I really haven't found quite the proper way to do it yet that looks organic. I generally don't do research ahead of time. I start with what I already know and think about the topic and if I need to look something up, I do so then.

Hello guys and gals,

I haven't been busy on here but wanted to try and get some straight and honest feedback from you all.

We are taking a new direction with our blog and added a lot more structure to it as it was a bit more loose before.

I want to know what kind of guidelines you create for yourself/blog when writing something.

How long do you research a topic, how many words per post, if over x amount of words do you break it up with a photo.

Things along those lines. I'm sure I missed some, but hopefully you get the idea.

Thanks in advance for anyone who is honest enough to do this!

Cheers,

Rp
