I have noticed that when particular sources tweet posts of mine, the incoming traffic is often tagged as "direct" in analytics. There are some however where I see the .tco referral, but it depends on who it's tweeted out by (for whatever reason).

I got a big spike in traffic yesterday (about 2.5x normal volume) and 70% of yesterday's traffic was 'direct' so I'm assuming I was maybe included in a newsletter or something where I'd be getting all these clicks. Cool to get the traffic, just wish I knew where it came from!

Direct traffic is where there isn't a referrer - which usually means they either directly typed in your URL or used a bookmark.

Though there can be a long list of other reasons that the referring URL isn't passed.

This weekend I got a quite good number of visitors that were identified as "direct traffic." I have a vague idea what direct traffic is but could someone clarify it from me?
