Great post Jeff. I would also be interested in how you decided which broker dealer would represent you. How did you find the broker dealer and what are some things to look for in a good one.

I have given up a 'career' to be home with the kids. Got a lot of guff from people about it, but oh well.

I work part time again (and from home), but have given up a lot of income to be more flexible and be able to do things with and for the family.

Being conservative financially has been huge for our family as I have been the caregiver to my dad, grandparents and obviously my own children. If I had to work full time the whole time, it would have been so stressful. So I give I didn't really give up anything, I gained time with people I love.

Great post, and I admire what you've done! I definitely haven't given up anything close to being worth $36k a year. I am planning to give up my job next year, but you've got me beat until then

My biggest risk was when (early 30s) I started investing in income property. Fortunately, it turned into a business and helped me achieve financial freedom. I added businesses that were more cash flow oriented and built up a small empire. After 14-15 years, I started to sell it off and go in a completely different direction. I did consulting and now teaching. Closer than you realize. As I near retirement (5.5 years away), I look forward to volunteering, taking classes and blogging.

Crazy! At this point, the only thing I'm giving up is television (which I found out I really don't care about ---what a waste of time). I can't quite fathom giving up the day job yet. Maybe after 2012 I'll consider it. ;)

In my quest to write "Epic sh$t" <inspired from Fincon11>, I shared a personal story on the blog today.

I talk about the motivation I had to give up my securities license, start my own firm and give up a considerable amount of income in the process.

It's one of the biggest risks I've taken in my life but I'm so glad that you've done it.

Appreciate any feedback on it. Read it here.

Also please share any times that you've taken a big risk to pursue your dreams. I live for this stuff!
