To write better than J.D. is quite a goal.  I'm not a Ramit fan; but it's his style that turns me off not the content.  Great list!

I have noticed this time and time again though, not too many women seem to be "blogging idols."  

I do love Gala Darling (fashion blogger) though- she makes living off her blog which is cool, but she's not a blogger guru. 

JD - getrichslowly.org:  Loved the topics he covers, his great writing and interesting content.

FMF freemoneyfinance.com:  another one of my inspirations that I was reading daily back in the day.  Still read it regularly, and it never disappoints.

Pat Flynn smartpassiveincome.com:  In the last year or two it's been amazing to watch the things Pat Flynn is doing both with his own site ,and all his side projects.  Definitely an inspiration.

Sure, the blogs with 100k feedburner subscribers are impressive, and that success inspriring, but one of the the first things I do when I visit any new site or blog is look at the archives (if available). One of the most telling things about that blogger is the length of time they have been at it. When I visit a site whose archive begins in 2003, chances are (first of all) they've written some great content and have found success, and that they have a personality that has gotten them through the ups and downs inherent in blogging and have stuck to it because of the enjoyment of the medium.

Those are the folks who impress me.

My idols are JD Roth, Leo Babauta and Darren Rowse.

I'd have to say it's their blogs that inspired me to take the leap of faith and create my site.

But since then there have been SO many writers and people out there who have been awesome in both their content and in their willingness to share what they know.

I also love the guy from Waiter Rant. That's one of the first blogs I ever read on a regular (psychotic) basis.

Oops, I did mean to answer this!  I would say Pat Flynn, because he is just so good at blogging/helping others while happening to sell at the same time.

Ramit Sethi - For his no holds barred style (I have met him once in person)

Chris Guillebau - For trying to make the world a better place and helping people live their own dream (Met him in person and had a beer with him, such a great guy)

Tim Ferris - For his overall awesomeness in almost everything he does

I have to agree with Squirrelers, Seth Godin is an inspiring person, and has produced a great blog.

And I agree with you both. Seth's blog rocks.

Since I straddle the personal finance/mom blogging line, I'll throw in Money Saving Mom. She's done big, big things and I like the way she approaches it.
