Over time I've come to look at it the same way. If you are too big then you may also get hit (I believe BMW got banned once for paid links), but their real targets are the sites that offer absolutely no value and are just looking to extract a few pennies.

Hey guys, the one thing I recommend is to not get caught up in what Google says or does. Their real targets are just unreadable link farm blogs that just have garble. I've seen them, and I'm amazed!

Just focus on the writing and networking and I think everything will take care of itself.

I'm not worried, from what Sam pointed out. But it is also good to note that some ad networks REQUIRE their ads to be above the fold. When I signed up for the Foodie Blogroll ad network, they wouldn't start serving paid ads until they confirmed that ad tag was above the fold. My first placement was above the fold for me (but towards the bottom of the page), but apparently not on their screen. So they made me move it higher. Now it's the first thing in my sidebar after social media/RSS links.

Yes, Sam I agree with you. Google or any search engines may not punish a blog/site if it has ads above the fold; instead, those bad neighborhood links, not relevant to the content, sometimes hidden somewhere in the blog are the culprits and Google just wants to catch them and punish them

I think you are safe as long as you use common sense and don't make the ads overpower the content. It is pretty hypocritical of Google to target this though. On some searches there are more ads than results on a page.

Getting penalized definitely isn't fun. So do what you can to jump through the vague hoops that they throw out there.

Thanks John. Yeah, I went thru the pages you referred to. I watched the video too. It's a good move from the Google, especially for the visitors. But Google has not specified how much ads is too much.. moreover, the placement of Google Adsense ads (as shared in the video) is a bit contrasting with that of the recent update. (watch video ) . Anyway, good info by the way..

PS: Moreover, I am unable to use this http://browsersize.googlelabs.com/, actually can't understand things..

Eric, your thinking is the same as mine. The better Google gets at detecting garbage, the better it is for people like The Yakezie who create good content while monetizing smartly.

The best part of the article is when the author put Google on the spot for violating their own rule by placing a ton of ads above their fold.
