I'm really green when it comes to this stuff, and I don't know anything about Google Reader. Do I need to put anything special on my page so those wishing to use Google Reader can subscribe or does Feedburner take care of that automatically?

Feedburner gives you an interface to customize and manage your feed, where the standard WP feed doesn't. You can add your logo to your posts, for example, or see how many subscribers you have. You can also set up the format of your posts and change things like link color or font. I highly recommend Feedburner to everyone regardless of platform, because otherwise if there's a problem with your feed, there's nowhere to log in and see what's wrong.
