There is a blog swap that is getting pulled together, its posted up in the forum, you should sign up for it.  It's my first one as well, and it lines up with your goals!  Second thing, I went to your website to email you this, and I noticed you don't have a "contact" page setup...you should do that! I have had useful tips from several Yakezie members emailed to me while they were browsing my site, its allowed me to make some helpful modifications.

I am definitely going to sign up for the blog swap. Thanks for the advice on the contact page! Can't believe I forgot that. I will get that put up tonight.

1.  Comment on other blogs and try to nurture relationships.

2.  Write roundups weekly if you can.  Everyone can use links.

3.  Submit to carnivals.

4.  Write quality content.

5.  Don't be afraid to go 'off topic' once in awhile.  Readers like to get to know the writer too.  (That may be just my opinion though.)

6.  Don't stress is you can't post as often as you like.  Life happens. 

7.  Don't worry about stats constantly.  Traffic takes time, and checking stats can be a big time waster.

8.  Limit your time blogging/commenting so you don't burn out.  You can literally spend 24 hours a day if you don't control yourself!

9.  Submit guest posts to other blogs.

10. Submit your blog to directories like blogcatalog, technorati, etc.

11.  Install great plugins to make your life easier.  (google sitemap, that kind of thing)

  1. Download the Alexa tool bar
  2. Install the Yakezie Challengers badge
  3. Work on the quality of your own posts and make sure that you are posting consistently every week
  4. Visit the members listed on the member page and challengers that you see on the forums
  5. Comment on other blogs.  Those blogs WILL follow you back
  6. Link to your fellow challengers from your own posts.  They WILL do the same
  7. Participate in carnivals, festivals, swaps and social networks
  8. Submit guest posts to other blogs so that you can get some traffic as well
  9. Participate in the forums
  10. Have fun!

It's a good way to stay connected at a glance. Plus when you are active with other blogs, people tend to reciprocate.

I've found this forum most helpful by searching for threads related to my questions or posting my own (and I have many many questions).

Definitely, set a pace that's sustainable. You don't want to burn out.

Twitter is also a good way to get good updates. I never thought I would ever understand twitter, but I've actually come across some good post and bloggers that way. I limit my subscriptions to finance folks & a few travel bloggers. You can catch a case of ADD if you are not careful. :)

Finally, I do try to set aside a day/time for blog related tasks. Although that's not always feasible, I do try to keep a consistent schedule.

Most of all enjoy it! This has been a wonderful experience thus far. You'll do great!
